208 HOLLYWOOD (2007)

This 10,000 square feet former meat packer was owned by a frozen meat trading company which has occupied the premises since the building’s completion in 1973. Back in the day, it was ideal due to its proximity to the Western District Public Cargo Works Area and Western Wholesale Food Market. Due to the changing retail landscape over the years, it no longer makes economic sense to continue using a street level retail shop for storing frozen meat. Therefore, this property was ripe for repurposing to better reflect the changing needs of modern times.

Following our acquisition in 2007, we embarked on an extensive 2-year architectural works programme, including a complete reconfiguration of the layout to create a restaurant and an art gallery space. The facade was modernised and floor-to-ceiling windows were installed to bring in natural light. A brand new staircase was constructed to provide independent access to both shops. Fire safety was improved with the installation of an automatic sprinkler system.  The drainage system was overhauled. The project has not only created a cultural destination for art and food lovers, it also introduced energy and vibrancy to an otherwise sleepy corner of Hollywood Road.
